Administrative Professionals Week

Administrative Professionals Week

Businesses Worldwide Celebrate Administrative Professionals Week®
and Administrative Professionals Day®

IAAP is the sole sponsor of Administrative Professionals Week® April 18-24, 2010, and Administrative Professionals Day® on Wednesday, April 21 (formerly called Professional Secretaries Week® and Professional Secretaries Day®).

IAAP created this recognition in 1952 with two objectives in mind: to recognize “the secretary, upon whose skills, loyalty, and efficiency the functions of business and government offices depend,” and to call attention “through favorable publicity, to the tremendous potential of the secretarial career”, and today it still serves to honor admins and their role in the workplace.

The Administrative Professionals Week theme for 2010 is Power of Commitment. Power of Commitment encompasses everything about administrative professionals and their values. As admins show commitment in all their work, they fully contribute to the workplace.

Admins are increasingly important in today’s unstable business climate. With the downturn in the economy companies are cutting positions and the admins left are taking on more and more work. Today’s administrative professionals are embracing varied roles as companies downsize. Businesses are looking for admins with soft skills who possess emotional intelligence in addition to technical skills, who are adaptable, and who have initiative, interpersonal skills and technical aptitude.

Many of the chapters in the MN-ND-SD Division host special events during that week, or at their regularly scheduled April meetings, with high-quality educational seminars that provide those skills to admins. Visit the Meetings and Events page of our website to find more information.
